Christmas Movies to Get You in a Jolly Festive Mood

Let’s Get Festive With These Top Christmas Movies.

As we’re finally into December it feels a little more legitimate to be talking Christmas, but we know it’s not always easy to get in the holiday mood. If you find you’ve not quite got the right level of festive cheer, or you just want a top up, today’s post is for you, for today we’re talking Christmas movies. Festive films that will brighten your holiday and spread a little festive cheer.

1. Arthur Christmas

A new favourite for the Christmas movie collection, we love Arthur and are sure you will too. We’re backed up by the posse at Karenza Paperie who suggested this one.

2. Elf

SANTA!! Sure to put a smile on your face you’re holiday movie selection must include Christmas comedy Elf. Will Ferrell getting hit by that taxi makes me laugh every single time.

3. Scrooged

A classic 80’s movie adapted from ‘A Christmas Carol’. Bill Murray is brilliantly funny as a ruthless TV executive pursued by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

4. White Christmas

Quite simply a Christmas classic. Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is the tale of two talented song-and-dance men (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. One winter, they join forces with a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) and trek to Vermont for a white Christmas.

5. Miracle on 34th Street

Kris Kringle … a tense law case … a feel-good Christmas movie brilliant for the whole family. Plus in the 1947 version you’ve got enough mid-century glamour, to keep our retro-loving pals Pennychoo and Rocket68 Cards happy … I hope.

6. It’s A Wonderful Life

George Bailey contemplating suicide doesn’t sound incredibly festive, but the addition of a guardian angel to show him how life would be without him turns it all around. Yet again a Christmas classic.

7. The Nightmare Before Christmas

A movie that really stands out from the crowd. We think Christmas deserves a little Pumpkin King style.

8. Trading Places

I almost forgot about the Christmassy elements of Trading Places (I know, I don’t know what I was thinking!) but thankfully this very funny 80’s classic was suggested by the team at Five Dollar Shake. We’re very grateful to them as we just love this movie … and Dan Aykroyd as a slightly bedraggled Santa!

9. Gremlins

Like every child of the 80’s I think I will always have a soft spot for Gizmo, who wouldn’t want a Gizmo for Christmas?! But PLEASE pay close attention to the rules people!

10. The Snowman and the Snowdog

Closing the collection another new movie. This might be controversial, you could go with the original Snowman if you prefer but after not much deliberation I plumped for the new movie. Quite honestly it was the snow puppy (complete with sock ears) that swung it.
