Behind the Scenes at Caroline Gardner Publishing

A Unique Look at an Inspiring Indie: Caroline Gardner Publishing.

At Piccadilly Lane we love to share the talented people behind the unique shops we feature. The designers and makers that put huge amounts of care and attention in to every aspect of creating a designer greeting card or developing a unique gift idea. With this in mind we couldn’t resist sharing a little sneak peek behind the scenes at the Caroline Gardner Publishing studio in London. We even asked the team a few questions to find out more. I hope you enjoy it!

1. What inspires the artwork and designs in the Caroline Gardner collection?

It’s probably easier to say what doesn’t inspire the collection than what does!  What definitely does not inspire the work is other greeting cards!  In order to stay ahead we have to constantly produce fresh designs.  We have just settled out of court with a company which has been blatant about shamelessly copying our work and far too much of this goes on.  Being a true creative Caroline’s inspiration comes from everything around her, fashion, art, music or it could just as easily be an unusual colour combination on a plate of food!

2. Can you share any ‘behind the scenes’ secrets on how Caroline Gardner Publishing products are developed?

I don’t think we do anything particularly unusual in the developing of product.  Quality is probably the biggest driver, and quite often product ideas get dropped or at least put on hold whilst the quality is assured.

3. What new products are you looking forward to introducing next?

One of Caroline’s real passions is textiles and the versatility they offer.  We have started introducing products in this area, and we have big plans for the coming year…

4. What are your personal favourite cards or gifts in the current collection?

One of our latest ranges, Botanical, were inspired by sketches made at the Chelsea Flower show, and they are definitely a new favourite.
